Great Britain’s two-time World Championship award personality Graeme Thomas has been forced out of a Rio Olympics by illness.

The 27-year-old, who had been due to contest in a men’s quadruple scull, fell ill on Saturday, a day after he arrived in Rio. He has been transposed in a group by 22-year-old Jack Beaumont.

A Team GB matter pronounced Thomas had come down with a ‘flu-like pathogen accepted to have been incubated before his attainment in Brazil’ – effectively statute out Zika – and had been cold on medical advice.

‘I wish my friends and organisation all a best in their Olympic regatta. we still trust they can do it though me and we wish all of this can lift any vigour or expectations and concede them to go out and suffer it that is customarily when people competition best.’

Thomas suggested his relatives had already shelled out ‘a lot of money’ to transport to Rio to watch him compete.
