Teenage boy dies ‘after taking drugs’ at Leeds Festival

Police have issued a warning to festival-goers there is “no safe way to take drugs”

A 17-year-old has died after taking drugs at Leeds Festival.

The youth, from the Greater Manchester, underwent emergency treatment but he was pronounced dead a short while later.

Police said they were contacted at about 16.45 BST on Saturday and the teenager was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Two 17-year-old males have been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and are in custody.

The teenager collapsed immediately after taking drugs at the festival, West Yorkshire Police said

Ch Supt Keith Gilert said: “We are currently investigating the death and how he obtained the substance he took.”

“At this time the indications are that the man consumed drugs immediately before he collapsed. A report will be sent to the coroner in due course,” he added.
