What we schooled during a Mercury Awards launch

David Bowie, Laura Mvula, The 1975 and Bat For Lashes have all been nominated for a 2016 Mercury Music Prize.

The shortlist, that recognises a best British albums of a final 12 months, also sees approval for dual soil artists: Kano and Skepta, whose albums have been called a “signpost” for a destiny of a genre.

BBC Music contributor Mark Savage spoke to a nominees about what it’s like to be adult for a award, and how they devise to celebrate.
